My Clumsiest Line

Well. Somehow I let more than 6 months pass since the last time I updated this blog. I guess buying your first home will do that to you. That and a very full semester of difficult courses and waiting tables on the side. That being said I have been feeling an incredible drive to start making things as a living. It has consumed all of my thoughts and haunts me in every minute that I am slaving away for the restaurant that currently owns my soul. That just sounds depressing. So my plan is that by this summer (when classes end for a few months) I will be able to jump full into my ideas. That isn’t to say I haven’t been creating things, I have. Just not near as often as I would like.

So, fall is upon me. Almost five years have passed since I picked up the parts of my life that would fit into my Ford Countour and relocated to the North East from Texas. It has been a shocking experience, mostly because my dear love of snow and winter was crushed pretty quickly and transformed into a bitter disgust for anything that remotely looks like snow. Especially brown snow. The cold has also been terrible. Who knew that those bitterly cold winds that attack in North Texas aren’t really all that bad when you compare them to the daily temperatures in Southern Connecticut. The good part about the Connecticut weather is that fall is breathtakingly beautiful. Right now the leaves haven’t quite gotten to their full potential and look like a muted photo of what is to come, but I know, and I am excited that 5 days a week I will make my hour long commute staring at a blend of reds and golds. At least for a short period of time, before… well we won’t talk about that anymore.

One good thing about the cold weather is it inspires me to pull out the knitting needles or crochet hooks and get to work on a project that will eventually keep me warm. I am obsessed with cowls and mittens. Also arm/wrist warmers, because let’s be honest, it is impossible to knit wearing mittens. Believe me, I have tried. My fingers still get a faint tint of blue to them and get a little stiff when I knit, but I just keep on going.

I am working on a few different projects right now as well as trying to write up a couple patterns I have been working on. You should know that I am in love with cables. Cables basically do it for me, and therefore I am currently working on a very simple cable that I can do mindlessly while in class. It is nice having some classes that don’t mind that sort of thing. Not that it really matters what the cables are on, they are cables! But, I think I am making a slip cover to keep my notebook in. I don’t know why I need such a thing, maybe just so that I can look at cables constantly, but it seems like the best idea I have ever had at the moment. Ask me again in a week. I am also working on a cowl using fair isle in an argyle pattern in green and brown. Basically those are my two favorite colors and I have a hard time breaking away from them, just a heads up.

Also on the needles is this scarf I have been working on for a year now. There is no good reason for it, because it is a gift for a friend, but I committed myself to the most boring thing ever and sometimes I feel like I would rather walk on hot coals than touch it. It is basically a tube scarf knit all in Stockinette stitch in Vanna’s Choice. At both ends there is a small entrelac piece in the picture of a Tri-Force from Zelda. That part was a ton of fun! At least the one that I did is, maybe someday I will get to the other end.

I was all set to post some pictures of all of these things but I just realized that the cable that hooks the computer up to the camera is in a box somewhere. Seriously, my life right now is like a mystery treasure hunt. I could pick a box and maybe if I am lucky I will find what I want, but most likely I will dismantle all the hard work we did in preparing to move. So instead I will sit here and ponder where it MIGHT be.

Rock Band will steal your life away.

In the time that I have that is not dedicated to school or art I like to play video games. Isn’t it funny how guys are usually pretty impressed by a lady that likes video games and girls very often don’t understand it at all? Well as you can see in this photo above, my dear friend Kate really enjoys Rock Band, as we all should, because it is most definitely one of the defining moments of absolute fun in my life. Why am I rambling on about Rock Band? Because up until that moment when your XBox 360 red rings on you, you will lose your voice every evening (attracting wolves to your house most likely) wailing to some of your favorite hits, and seriously Beatles Rock Band is amazing.

Anyhow, my entire point was.. I am not a photographer, so much so that my husband generally gets annoyed with the awful pictures I leave on the camera, BUT I took this photo in a sheer moment of luck. Although to be fair, it isn’t really that hard to catch the energy of an overly energetic person. Will I try to convert myself into a photographer now? Not likely. I will stick to trying to remember how to use the macro button to take photos of small things to post on Etsy. I will also continue to look at this picture with pride. I have had my once in a lifetime amazing photo!

Nintendo Shoes

Awhile back I was inspired to create some different kinds of custom vans. Especially those with the Nintendo flair. I don’t know about you, but I was a child of the 80′s and one of the dearest memories of my heart is the Christmas I received my first Nintendo. I also remember quite clearly having the hardest time with the Birdo in Mario Brothers 2, but that has something to do with my complete stubbornness to read the manual and the fact that I was 6 years old. You know what I am talking about, don’t pretend you don’t. So the point is I made a few different kinds of shoes, these Mario Brothers shoes, some Punchout shoes and some Zelda shoes, all inspired from my favorite 8 bit machine. I sold them for awhile, but quickly lost my inspiration for painting and drawing on shoes and now only do custom orders. Just the same.. I thought I would share.

Not many days pass without a thought to writing in a blog, although it has been some time since I have sucessfully used one. Now that I am trying very hard to get some patterns together to share with others I feel it is the perfect time to really make use of this blog. Hopfully my creations and witicisms won’t scare everyone off.

In the meantime I am going to try to update some past projects that I would like to share and see how many times I can change the theme of this blog in this honeymoon period. If I prove to myself that I will actually use this thing maybe I will make some custom effort. Not yet though.
